Welcome to the All-New NowPlayingPodcast.com
We’ve been busy behind the scenes, and the Now Playing Podcast website just got a full overhaul. This isn’t just a layout change; it’s been rebuilt from the ground up to be a smarter, more connected way to explore everything we’ve covered over the years.
First thing you’ll notice is the speed and layout. Search actually works now. Series are easier to follow. Jumping between reviews doesn’t feel like digging through a filing cabinet anymore. If you’ve ever tried to track a franchise or find “that one episode we did years ago,” this should make it much easier.
But I had more fun adding new features I’ve been dreaming about for literally years (and a couple I literally came up with yesterday!)
You can now click on any actor or director’s name and instantly see every movie we’ve reviewed with them. Fall down a rabbit hole with Samuel L. Jackson, or see how often someone like John Carpenter shows up in our catalog. And if you want the big picture, there’s a new page tracking the Top 50 most-reviewed actors and directors across the show.
We’ve also added a new badge: Now Playing Podcast Approved. If all three hosts recommend a movie, it earns that designation.
On the flip side, we’re embracing the trash. The new “Brown Arrow” section highlights movies that are so bad they loop back around to being entertaining. To be clear, the movies are bad. The reviews are not. If you’ve ever enjoyed a trainwreck, this is your section.
Then there’s “Now Playing Podcast Staff Picks.” Every member of the team picked 10 movies they personally love. Some of these also got three recommends from the hosts…and some definitely do not. But at least one of us is willing to go to the mat for each one.
We’re also pulling more of our history into the present. Book reviews from Books & Nachos are now integrated directly into the same series pages as the movies. So if you’re following something like Stephen King, Philip K. Dick or James Bond, you’ll see the full picture in one place. (Although we ARE still uploading some of those older episodes, so if you don’t see a book review yet, it’s coming soon).
And we’ve dug into the archives. Older, harder-to-find content is now back on the site, including things like our Broadway review of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark and interviews with people like Walter Koenig, Samuel L. Jackson, Keenan Thompson, and Lea Thompson. (Those last two people aren’t related…that I know of.)
On top of that, the homepage now features our latest YouTube clips, and we have an updated schedule so you can see what’s coming next without guessing.
There’s more tucked in there, but that’s the big stuff. Bottom line: it’s faster, easier to use, and way better at connecting the dots across 20+ years of reviews.
Take it for a spin and see where it leads you. Just don’t blame us if you lose an hour clicking through actors and ending up three franchises deep!
