Patron Exclusive Review Episode 100

A cinematic feast whether you like snails or oysters

Kirk Douglas (20,000 Leagues Under The Sea) turns the gladiator games of ancient Rome into a full-fledged slave rebellion in the 1960 epic Spartacus. But can the tough guy compete in an acting arena packed with Oscar-winning heavyweights like Laurence Olivier (Hamlet), Peter Ustinov (Death on the Nile), and Charles Laughton (Mutiny on the Bounty)?  Or is the real star of the show Stanley Kubrick, who graduates from little indie films to helming the biggest Hollywood production of its day? Overview
The rebellious Thracian Spartacus, born and raised a slave, is sold to Gladiator trainer Batiatus. After weeks of being trained to kill for the arena, Spartacus turns on his owners and leads the other slaves in rebellion. As the rebels move from town to town, their numbers swell as escaped slaves join their ranks. Under the leadership of Spartacus, they make their way to southern Italy, where they will cross the sea and return to their homes.
